Who is Zarifa Ghafari? Zarifa Ghafari is a Pashto woman who was born in 1992 and she is an advocate, activist, politician, and entrepreneur. Zarifa is the current mayor of Maidan Shahr, the capital city of the Wardak Province, Afghanistan.

As the Taliban advanced on Afghanistan’s capital, Senior members of the government managed to flee, but Zarifa Ghafari and people like her have been left without help.

Who is Zarifa Ghafari?

Zarifa is one of the few Afghanistani female mayors, and also is the youngest female to be appointed at the age of 26 in Afghanistan history.

She is known for her efforts in empowering women’s rights in Afghanistan. Zarifa was chosen as an International Woman of Courage in 2020 by the US Secretary of State.

In 2019, She was among 100 inspiring and influential women from around the world by BBC. Zarifa was chosen as an International Woman of Courage in 2020 by the US Secretary of State.
