Programs are set to sign riders up for free smartphones and discount GoPass cards to access jobs, healthcare and educational opportunities.
DALLAS – Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) is working with Assurance Wireless to provide free smartphones, phone services and discounted transportation to eligible riders.
The two are working together for the federal Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP)Which was created to help homes get broadband internet for things like work, school and healthcare.
The smartphone will also come with unlimited high-speed data, unlimited minutes and texts, and 10 gigabytes of mobile hotspot data.
Same benefits also come under Texas LifelineWhich is open to anyone involved in Medicaid, SNAP, WIC, or any of the following programs:
DART and Assurance Wireless will hold several events in September and November for people to apply for a free smartphone. You must bring documents to prove that you are participating in an eligible program.

Apart from the free smartphone, Dart has also started a pilot program to offer discount GoPass Tap Card. The goal is to help qualified riders have easy access to jobs, health care and educational opportunities.
