I-90 near Snoqualmie Pass closes due to Snow squall causes multiple crashes

I-90 near Snoqualmie Pass updates: Both sides of I-90 near Snoqualmie Pass now have reopened after closures on both sides that lasted several hours amid heavy snow.

Both sides of Interstate 90 have reopened after multiple collisions amid a snow squall forced closures near Snoqualmie Pass. However, chains now are required for all drivers traveling both east and westbound.

Just after 4 p.m. on Saturday, WSDOT reported that crashes on both sides of the freeway led to closures of I-90 both westbound and eastbound. Eastbound Interstate 90 near Snoqualmie Pass at milepost 34 near North Bend was opened up first. The westbound side at milepost 106 near Ellensburg still had vehicles that need to be cleared before it can reopen, and it wasn’t reopened until just before 9 p.m.

Major traffic piled up on I-90 after both sides closed due to collisions Saturday, WSDOT shared earlier in the day. [Read Also: Amber Alert for Milwaukee 3-year-old canceled]

Jim and Drew Estes were at the summit when the snow squall hit. They were enjoying a beer for Jim’s 66th birthday.

“We were actually sitting in Dru Bru when we saw when it came down. It probably snowed three inches in about an hour,” Jim Estes said.

Getting back to their home in North Bend may have been delayed, but they made the best out of the hold up.

“We’ve had good pizza along the way, and just met a lot of nice people,” Drew Estes said.

Westbound State Route 2 near Stevens Pass at milepost 65 remains closed after WSDOT reported a closure just before 6 p.m.
