Meet the Texas Rangers Mariachi band

One Saturday a month during baseball season, this team of eight musicians comes together from across the state.

Arlington, Texas – Roger Martinez and his team get ready before the game, performing for thousands of people at the Globe Life Field.

“You hear the crowd roar every now and then and it’s like ‘Man, that’s awesome,'” Martinez said.

They wear their Texas Rangers logo proudly, but not as baseball players, but mariachi de los texas rangers,

Since 2018, they are the first and only official Major League Baseball team mariachi band.

“It’s a huge factor in maintaining the cultural heritage you know alive here, especially in DFW,” Martinez said.

One Saturday a month during baseball season, this team of eight musicians comes together from across the state.

Half of these are from the DFW area here.

They start the day by hypnotizing the crowd at an event called Viva Tejas outside the stadium just before the game.

It is a way to identify and empower the Hispanic community.

“Man, when there’s mariachi anywhere, everybody’s happy,” Martinez said.

Even in the heat of summer, people are unable to turn to music.

With every breath and ounce of energy, the mariachi de los Texas Rangers – exactly what a pre-game tailgate needs.

Then for 16 games in a season, they go inside the stadium.

Rangers fans – experience mariachi, where the delicate strings on the harp and the soft vocals of the violin attack in bold style.

Cindy Cabrera said, “I’m not very delicate like a violin, but we can show what else we can do with a violin.”

They share a colorful part of Mexican culture that has been around for centuries.

It’s romantic, it’s gentle and amplified for all to look at proudly.
